TVPosted by Michael Jan 17, 2016 10:04AM Interesting interview published in The Sunday Express on December 29, 2015. Some really bad news about her singing, but it's great to see that Ms. Carroll is still going strong: "A fighter, she is throwing herself into her new reality TV series, plus a leading role in feature film The Masked Saint, opening in the US next week and coming to the UK."
Rejoice, European Dynasty fans! Season 7, a eight disc set, is released on DVD on November 16 in Scandinavia, and in December in Germany. Other areas to follow. This is the last season featuring Diahann Carroll as Dominique.
The short-lived spin-off from Dynasty is being repeated on CBS Drama from the end of July. The broadcaster has already aired seasons of Dynasty and will also air Dynasty: The Reunion, the TV movie produced after the cancellation of the soap. The Colbys revolved around the extended family of Jeff Colby (John James) based in Los Angeles. Dynasty’s mix of big business, powers struggles and melodrama was replicated for the spin-off.
The Colbys starred Stephanie Beacham, Charlton Heston, Emma Samms, Tracy Scoggins, Maxwell Caulfield, Barbara Stanwyck, Katherine Ross and Ricardo Montalban. The series also featured crossovers with parent series Dynasty as actors John Forsythe, Diahann Carroll, Gordon Thomson and Jack Coleman all appeared but notably absent was Joan Collins who lead a boycott of the spin-off.
The Coblys wasn’t as successful as Dynasty and only lasted two seasons before being cancelled. It’s last episode features the infamous UFO abduction of Fallon Carrington-Colby (Emma Samms) and was the drama’s highest rated episode. With the cancellation of the series Fallon and Jeff were transferred back to the main series and several years later Stephanie Beacham and Tracy Scoggins reprised their roles on Dynasty.
CBS Drama will begin repeating The Colbys on Monday 25th July with three airings daily at 8am, 1pm and 6pm. CBS Drama is available on Sky channel 149 and Freesat channel 134.
Released a few weeks ago in Europe, At Risk and The Front are now both available on DVD in the US. The following review sums up both TV movies quite right:
"Patricia Cornwell's At Risk" (2011, Lifetime, unrated, $15) Lifetime kicked off a series of TV movies with this engrossing if overly fussy thriller about a Boston cop ("Rescue Me's" Daniel Sunjata) and his D.A. boss (Andie MacDowell) who set out to solve a cold case using updated forensic techniques. The case involving the murder of an elderly woman in Knoxville, Tenn., leads back to Boston in surprising ways. There's an attempt to give the characters a gritty edge but, essentially, this is a tricked-out episode of "Law and Order" with a great guest spot by Diahann Carroll as Sunjata's grandmother. Don't miss this 1998 interview. Diahann talks about Julia, Dynasty and about her many other appearances on TV shows, such as The Danny Kaye Show, The Dean Martin Show, and Hollywood Palace. She also talks about her movies and much, much more.
